In memoriam Prof. dr. ir. Theo Eggen

On June 26, 2024, Prof. dr. ir. Theo Eggen passed away. Theo was one of the founders and for many years a driving force behind the Research Centre for Examination and Certification. With his vast wealth of knowledge and insight, he made a significant contribution to assuring and advancing the quality of examinations, both in the Netherlands and beyond. He was an expert and dedicated psychometrician who devoted much of his scientific career to applying psychometric methods to solve practical problems in educational testing and to improve the quality of assessments. Internationally, he is renowned for his contributions to the item response theory (IRT) in general and to computer-based adaptive testing in particular.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Theo’s family and friends during this time of loss. We will always remember Theo as a cheerful, friendly, and passionate individual who made a unique and invaluable contribution to the RCEC and the quality of examinations.
