Investigation into unwanted predictability in ADR Basic Certificate, Small Vessel Licence 1 and 2 and Road Goods Transport Part 1 theory exams
Periodically, CBR’s CCV division has its theory exams tested for unwanted predictability in the exam questions.
In the most recent study, RCEC, Research Centre for Examination and Certification, analysed thousands of questions from the exams for ADR Basic Certificate, Small Vessel Licence 1 and 2 and Road Goods Transport Part 1.
The aim of this study was to detect unwanted predictability in the questions. Unwanted predictability occurs when candidates are able to predict the correct answer without understanding the question. Because large exam banks are regularly updated or expanded, it is desirable to systematically test for (undesirable) predictability.
The study shows that candidates will not encounter many predictabilities when taking a theory exam. And based on some predictability, theory exams cannot be taken without knowledge, with a satisfactory result.
